IC Secure Desktop System Requirements

Applies to IC Secure Updated 3 min read

IC Secure Desktop runs on supported Windows computers and servers. The server and client can run on the same computer for smaller deployments, or on separate computers for larger systems. This article covers the hardware and software requirements for each component.

Server Requirements

The server handles camera connections, video recording, and storage management. Hardware requirements depend on the number of cameras, resolution, bitrate, and recording settings.

Component Requirement
Operating System Windows 10/11 (64-bit), Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, or 2012
Processor Intel Core i7-8700 or higher
Memory 16 GB RAM minimum
Network 2.5 Gbps Ethernet adapter
Storage Dedicated drives for video recording. Required capacity depends on camera count and retention.
Camera Capacity Up to 256 cameras per server

Tip: Use separate physical drives for the operating system and video storage. This helps prevent recording activity from affecting system responsiveness.

Client Requirements

The client application connects to the IC Secure server to display live and recorded video. Client hardware requirements depend on how many camera streams need to be displayed at the same time.

Component 8 Channels 16 Channels 32 Channels
Processor Intel Core i3-8100 Intel Core i5-8500 Intel Core i7-8700
Memory 8 GB RAM 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics Direct3D compatible, 1 GB VRAM Direct3D compatible, 1 GB VRAM Direct3D compatible, 1 GB VRAM

All client machines require Windows 10/11 (64-bit), Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, or 2012. They also require a Direct3D compatible graphics adapter with at least 1 GB VRAM and network connectivity to the IC Secure server.

Display Channel Capacity

The number of simultaneous camera streams the client can display depends on the processor, video codec, stream resolution, and bitrate. Use the table below as a general reference when selecting workstation hardware.

Codec / Resolution i3-8100 i5-8500 i7-8700
H.264, 720P, 2 Mbps 8 channels 16 channels 32 channels
H.264, 1080P, 4 Mbps 6 channels 10 channels 18 channels
H.265, 1080P, 4 Mbps 3 channels 5 channels 9 channels

Note: H.265 streams require more CPU resources for decoding. If the cameras support both codecs, H.264 may allow more simultaneous streams on the same hardware.

Storage Planning

Video storage requirements depend on camera count, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, recording type, and retention period. Higher resolution, higher frame rate, and higher bitrate settings increase storage usage.

H.265 encoding can reduce storage usage compared to H.264 at similar quality. Event-triggered recording can also reduce storage usage compared to continuous recording because video is only stored when matching events occur.

Dedicated storage drives should have sustained write throughput sufficient for the total camera bitrate. Plan storage capacity before deployment and monitor usage through the IC Secure server dashboard.
